Making Money in Finnish Cottage Simulator is required to perform several tasks. Therefore, I jumped in to help you with my guide to learn how to make money following a few easy steps.
You are playing a business simulation game; so, the method would be related to selling products. Read this guide to proceed through the game and make a stack of cash.
Tips on How to Make Money in the Game
Kilju (Homemade Alcohol)
- You can make kilju in a bucket.
- You’ll need a bucket, a lid, and an airlock. These are already available at the cabin.
- You can steal another bucket from Jari’s kitchen (under the sink in the cupboard).
- You’ll find the lid in the cellar.
- Another airlock has to be purchased from Juha’s shop.
First Things First
You need to go to the store, or you can steal a packet of sugar from Jari’s kitchen, as the cabin only has one kilogram of sugar, but you need two for a full bucket.
- The recipe for making kilju is in the next section.
- Selling Kilju You can sell kilju to your neighbors (except Kalevi) every 2-3 days.
- First, you need to ask if they want to buy kilju.
- Once they say yes, remove the lid from the kilju bucket and push the bucket up to the character.
- When the character thanks you, the sale is successful.
- It’s best to take two buckets of kilju and visit the neighbors every few days.
Kilju Sales and Earnings
- Jari: 4 liters = 16€
- Pekka: 3 liters = 12€
- Marjatta: 5 liters = 25€
With the earnings from one round of selling kilju, you can buy supplies, bait, and new ingredients for fishing, hunting, etc.
- Take two full kilju buckets in your backpack and head out to sell. Of course, with money on your mind.
Sell to Jari and Pekka first. - Then, with the second bucket, you can take care of Marjatta.
- I always empty the leftover kilju from the buckets into the large bucket in the sauna.
- This way, you will gradually accumulate a nice stock of kilju, and the leftover stuff won’t go to waste.
Kilju Recipe Ingredients
- Bucket
- Lid
- Airlock
Fill the bucket with water (either from the lake or the well) to just under 8 liters. I use 7.99 liters.
If you go over 8 liters, or if it’s exactly 8 liters, it can cause issues.
You won’t be able to fit everything in the bucket.
You can remove water from the bucket using a coffee cup, a kuksa, or a coffee pot.
Any empty bottle will also work, or even a ladle.
If you want to remove just a few milliliters (or about 200 ml), it’s easiest to take water into the coffee cup or kuksa, drink a little, and then pour the water back into the bucket.
Once you have about 7.99 liters of water in the bucket, add 2 kilograms (2 packages) of sugar.
Then, add 25 grams (half a packet) of yeast.
First, attach the airlock to the lid, and then put the lid onto the bucket.
Without the airlock, the lid will fly off the bucket very quickly.
You’ll see progress in the bucket as everything works and alcohol begins to form.
The finished kilju has a bit of yeast, around 14.8% alcohol, and some water might remain in the lid.
You can remove the airlock once the kilju is ready.
Hunting and Selling Meat for Earnings
Hunting one moose and selling the meat to Juha = 5 pieces of meat, 50€ (10€ per piece).
- Two moose will already give you 5 beer cans.
- You can get Jari’s turbo with 10 moose.
- Bear meat = 30€ per piece, and I got 8 pieces from one bear, which means 240€.
- Bears are worth hunting. They are rare, but you can find them anywhere (I’ve encountered two in the swamp).
- Two bears almost get you Jari’s turbo.
- The bug that made bear meat unusable has been fixed, and now bear meat works for Juha.
- Remember that only bear meat hunted after the November 19 update is accepted by Juha.
- Animals roam the woods, roads, even by the shore and sometimes on your own yard.
- Always take a backpack with you when going somewhere, and at the very least, pack a knife, rifle ammo, and the rifle itself.
- Make sure to fill the rifle magazine at home (it holds 5 rounds).
You might miss your target if you fiddle with the rifle after firing a shot.
Fishing
You can catch fish using both a worm and a rod.
For the rod, you’ll need a worm jar and a shovel to dig them up.
I won’t go into much detail about the rod, as I haven’t used it myself.
I recommend using it for fun rather than for critical financial emergencies, such as Jari’s turbo task.
Fishing Rod
In the game, there is a lure pack that includes one lure along with lingonberry juice.
With this lure, you can catch small perch and possibly a salmon if you’re lucky.
Seppo is also wondering if it’s good.
However, I recommend completing the kilju selling round and buying new lures from Juha’s store.
You can sell the fish to Juha.
Juha will sell the fish you bring to him.
The fish you catch will show up in the cold storage.
Yes, the fish you catch. This refers to the images in this tutorial.
Juha will pay you the same amount for fish as he sells them for.
A true businessman.
Fish Prices:
- Salmon: 10€
- Pike: 5€
- Perch: 2€
With the fishing rod, almost every cast will result in a catch.
It has worked well for me that the slower you reel in when you catch a fish, the more likely it is to stay on the hook.
The largest lure (10€) has given me good salmon catches.
The most expensive lure (15€) brings in plenty of pike.
The perch lure does its job and catches plenty of perch, though I’ve also caught pike with it.
All lures can catch a mix of fish. These are my personal experiences after playing for almost 35 hours.
Other Tips
If you owe Juha money, he will reduce the debt by only 50% of what the item would normally cost. So it’s best to pay off the debt with cash if possible.
It’s possible that the first time you visit Juha, he won’t want to buy anything until you’ve refueled your vehicle.
After refueling, when you return to talk to Juha, he will ask about your debts.
Respond with “How else can I pay?”
Juha will then tell you that you can bring him fish or meat, and a journal entry will appear saying “Take meat or fish to Juha.”
I haven’t had any issues with this, but some people have reported that the refueling part must be done first.
Players have different setups, and there may also be unique bugs.
This game is still in early development, and the devs are quickly addressing updates and bugs.
Unfortunately, I can only provide this guide in Finnish due to my language limitations.
