Mad Island: How to Give NPC Work Instructions

I’ve compiled a guide to help you learn how to instruct NPCs in Mad Island. There are several characters available with unique behavior. Before passing instructions to NPCs about their work, you should choose them first and see their status to check whether they have any work on their list or not.

How to Give NPC Work Instructions

Go through my guide to learn how it works. It will also help you understand the behavior of each character.

Select the NPC

Mad Island

Click on the NPC you’ve made your friend to select them. If the NPC is blinking white, it means they have been successfully selected.

Click the “Status” Button

Mad Island
After selecting the NPC, click the “Status” button that appears near them.

View the Status

Mad Island
The NPC’s status will appear on the right side of the screen.

Click “Click Here”

Mad Island
Click the “Click here” button to proceed with the instructions.

Choose a Job

Mad Island

Select the job you want the NPC to perform. For this example, I have chosen “Harvest.”

Prepare the Work Area

Mad Island

You need to prepare a work area! Make sure to craft the necessary equipment from the craft menu.

Place the Work Area Near the NPC

Mad Island

Place the work area close to the NPC. You can set the location using the “Move” option. Once you’ve set the location, the selected NPC will walk over to it.

Job Starts When a Mark Appears

Mad Island
When a mark appears above the NPC’s head, it means they’ve started working. (Apologies for the mark being hard to see.) Some characters may not have animations for their jobs yet, so if you’re unsure whether they’re working, just look for the mark above their heads—it indicates that they are performing their job correctly.

Notes

  • If the NPC’s water level is too low, they won’t work (as long as the water level isn’t at 0, they will still work).
  • NPCs won’t work if they are too far from the work location.
